Water games night

For our final meeting of the year we met in a local park for a night of water games. Throwing water is always a guaranteed night of fun!

Activity 1: Puddle Jumping
Hand each girl a plastic cup filled with water. One at a time while holding their cups, players must jump into the skipping rope as it is turned and complete 5 jumps. Water of course will fly out of the cup onto the girl, so the player with the most water left at the end wins. If you have a large group of girls, have multiple skipping ropes to cut back on time standing around.

Activity 2: Sponge Pass
Divide into Patrols. Have the members of each Patrol lie down side by side on their backs, alternating directions . Place a bucket of water near the head of each line. Have the first player of each Patrol hold a soaked sponge with her feet. The girls use their feet to pass their sponge down the line and back. If a player drops the sponge, she may sit up to recover it but can only use her feet to get it back into the game. The first Patrol to get their sponge back into the bucket wins!

The girls loved this and it was really interesting to see how the different Patrols worked as a team. After each round, we moved the player at the front to the back of the line, so that everybody had a turn at the front of the line.

Activity 3: Drip, Drip, Drop
Played the same as duck-duck-goose, but use the words drip-drip-drop. The Guide that is in holds a sponge over each person's head as she says "drip", and when she says "drop" she squeezes out all of the water like in the photo below. The game continues like duck-duck-goose, with the chasing around the circle to get back to the empty seat first.

We have also played this game using a cup of water, instead of a sponge.

Activity 4: Wet Shirt Relay
Divide girls into Patrols. Opposite each Patrol is a bucket of water with a tshirt inside. The  first member runs to the bucket of water, dresses in the wet tshirt, runs back to her team, takes off the shirt and passes it to the next player. The relay continues with that player then running up to the bucket of water carrying the tshirt, before they put it on they must first dunk it completely in the bucket of water. Continue until all players have run.

Warning: This game involves a lot of laughter! Make sure that you use large shirts so that they can fit each girl. The younger ones had a bit of difficult putting on the wet shirt as it got stuck together.

Activity 5: Cup & Tray Balance
Divide into two groups. One group has bucket of water and sponge balls. The other is holding trays filled with cups of water. On "go", the girls carrying trays must walk in front of those with the sponge balls. The girls with the sponge balls must attempt to knock over the cups of water on the tray.

You must set clear rules for this activity so that is doesn't get out of control. No throwing above the shoulders and each girl gets one ball toss and then waits until all players have moved off the field before running to retrieve the balls.

If you don't want to buy sponge balls, why not make your own! Fun, simple and affordable!
